Rules and Regulations

Kata (Forms) Competition :
Age appropriate and skill level forms are expected. Students will be judged on clean/ sharp movement, balance, strength, appearance, stances, technique, flow, timing, and overall performance.

Kumite (Sparring) (Point fighting) :
This is a point sparring competition, not continuous...
All competitors must have headgear, mouthpiece, shin pads & foot pads (or shin and instep pads), chest guard (optional), groin cup (male). Any competitor without any one of these required and mandatory pieces of equipment (at the time of his/her match) will be disqualified. All divisions will run a 3 Point match. First to 3 points wins! No ties! All belt levels will be allowed full contact to the body (with control, no wild hits) and controlled contact to the head/ helmet. There are warnings for excess contact and a student will be warned only once! Second time will result in a disqualification! Immediate disqualification will happen if blood is drawn!

Kubudo (Weapons) :
All weapons are welcomed. Age appropriate and skill level weapon forms are expected. Students will be judged on clean/ sharp movement, balance, strength, appearance, stances, technique, flow, timing, and overall performance.

Sumo Wrestling :
This is our new and fun event that links the bridge between sparring and ground fighting! It focuses on balance and being able to take your opponent down or out of the ring with technique.

The rules are you must either force your opponent out of the ring, or onto the mat within the ring. Only feet and hands can touch inside the ring. All other body parts touching inside the ring will count as a loss of point. Going out of the ring will cost you a point as well. Each match is worth 1 point. Race to 3 points.

There is no punching or kicking! Leg sweeps are legal, but no raising the foot above the knee of your opponent. You are allowed to pick up opponent as well. No gear is required for sumo.
